This morning the kids and I headed out for a walk and Savannah made a most unusual discovery when we came home. "Mom! Mom! There's a bat on our porch!!!" she exclaimed with glee. For Savannah the only thing better than finding a bat on our porch would have been if I had given in to her request to bring it inside and raise it as our own. If you know me at all....you're laughing right now because I would rather have 3 back to back root canals without Novocain than raise a wild bat.
"Mom, please can we just give it some fruit?"
"No."
"Can I just touch it once?"
"No."
"Can I get a ladder and take a really close picture?"
"No."
"Why?!"
"Because it's illegal, because they give me the creeps and because with my luck it will wake up, fly in the house through the open front door and flap wildly around until we have to call animal control, who will only tell me that they can't do anything because the darn little suckers are protected."
Donning her best pouty face she sulks back inside, but watches intently from the window.
I think I'll put off going out to get the mail until tomorrow.
Savannah's bat...sleeping, for the moment.
